MILPITAS, CA – May 13, 2011 – Linear Technology Corporation (NASDAQ: LLTC), a leading, independent manufacturer of analog integrated circuits, today announced that Robert Dobkin and Tom Hack of Linear were selected as Innovators of the Year in EDN’s 21st annual Innovation Awards (http://innovation.edn.com/). The two were selected for their work in developing the LT4180 Virtual Remote Sense Controller, which was also chosen by EDN as winner of the EDN Innovation Award in the Power ICs category for its innovative design, providing designers with new flexibility options in power design.
Robert Dobkin, Vice President, Engineering and Chief Technical Officer for Linear Technology, stated, “We are honored by our selection by EDN for development of this innovative power circuit. The LT4180 provides a previously unavailable tool for power designers, enabling excellent load regulation without sense wires. I want to especially highlight the superb design work of my colleague and fellow recipient, Tom Hack.”
Steve Pietkiewicz, Vice President, Power Management Products for Linear Technology, added, “The LT4180 was developed from innovative, original concepts. As such, we are pleased to receive an EDN Innovation award for the device. Its ability to regulate voltage at the load with no additional wires makes it a flexible new power design tool that we believe will be welcomed by power designers in a range of application areas.”
Over its lifetime of more than 50 years, EDN has witnessed many distinguished achievements. In 1990, EDN embarked on a special mission to honor the most innovative technological advancements—and the designers who invent them. The EDN Innovation Awards program is now in its 21st year and proudly continues its tradition of recognizing rich talent in the electronics design engineering industry.
In addition, Linear Technology’s TimerBlox® family of ICs was named winner in UBM Electronics’ EE Times Seventh Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Awards for Most Popular Product of the Year in the Analog-Mixed Signal category due to its innovative design of simple, accurate timing solutions (www.eetimes-ace.com).
Erik Soule, Vice President, Signal Conditioning Products, stated, “The TimerBlox parts are tiny, clever and deceptively simple problem solver solutions. Their built-in timing source allows them to be used as VCOs, PWM generators, one-shots and delays without any software or microcontroller.”
The EE Times Annual Creativity in Electronics (ACE) Awards celebrates the creators of technology who demonstrate leadership and innovation in the global industry and shape the world we live in. Awards were presented on Tuesday, May 3rd during the Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley. Awards are presented in 15 categories and are judged by the editors and a blue-ribbon panel of industry experts, comprised of the leading voices of academia, industry and Wall Street executives.
“The 2011 winners, whose age, education and background cover a remarkable range, are the essence of creativity that offers promise for America’s technology future. This exceptional group is a cross-section of engineering talent,” said Junko Yoshida, editor in chief, EE Times.
